My approach to theatre is based on my belief that art must mean something...it should evoke some form of emotion or reaction. This being the case, I believe everything we work for in theatre should have meaning. Since theatre is collaborative, we must all work together to understand what we are saying. When the audience experiences a show, they should be aware, even if subconsciously, that the artists on every level of the process have been intentional in their work. There is an injustice done when any step is approached within the process of making theatre without considering how it affects all others involved. Performances without meaning can be entertaining, but I believe in the world-changing power of a collaborative team studying an aspect of humanity; then working together through the process to present a gift which is thoughtful, united, and meaningful in a way that only live theatre can.
